    Todd McKenny talks Greyhounds
Not just a pretty face, in his recent interview on the Kerri-Anne show, Todd McKenny talks about his coming role in the stage production of The Boy from OZ but he brings out his greyhounds and raves about how wonderful they are. See the full interview HERE.
    Muzzle Law Update
You may have recently heard that a NSW Minister has given in principle support to a change to their Muzzle Laws for pet greyhounds. This doesn't mean that the law has changed, they still have to go through the same process that we have been pushing on with in WA but they already have some publicly announced support for the idea so it should be an easier path for them.

We took the opportunity to inform the WA Minister for Local Government and ask what progress was being made with the review of the Dog Act in WA.

The following response was received in March -

.a similar amendment to Section 33 of the Dog Act 1976 is also proposed for Western Australia. This amendment will provide flexibility to allow retired greyhounds that have successfully undertaken a retraining program to be exempt from the muzzling requirement.

To ensure that the current proposed amendments remain appropriate, early this year I intend to request Cabinet's approval to draft a Green Bill.

So things in WA are still moving forward and we will still keep you posted on any further news we hear!

Photo Submissions for GAP 2012 Calendar
We are now accepting photo submissions for the 2011 calendar.

GAP WA will be coordinating the production of the National GAP Calendar for 2012 and we're ready for you guys to start sending in your gorgeous photos.
Submissions from all states will need to be received by Friday 24 June 2011.

Please refer to the following guidelines for submitting your photos.

    Image Quality
Digital photos are preferred however printed photos will still be accepted if they are of a good enough quality to be scanned and enlarged. Images submitted need to be the highest quality so they can be enlarged to the larger sizes printed in the calendar. To improve quality, look at your digital camera settings and make the size setting = largest and the quality setting = finest this will be the biggest possible file size at the best quality.

    Naming
Your photos must be individually labeled with your name and your dog's name.

    Digital photos
It is important to have a clear reference of the Dog/s name and the Adopter/s name.
When saving files to disk rename the file in the following format: DogName_OwnerName_.jpeg
Make sure each photo on the disk is named along with the disk itself.

    Printed Photos
Please write Dog/s name and Adopter/s name clearly on the back of each photo.
If more than one greyhound is in the submitted photos, clearly state the name of each greyhound and their colour.

    Please post your photos to:
    GAP Calendar Photos
    PO Box 6
    Cannington WA 6987

    Or email them to GAP.

Remember to follow the naming guidelines so that we can ensure your dog is correctly identified if your pictures are selected. Please note, any photos submitted for use in the calendar may be used by GAPs around Australia for promotional purposes and therefore your permission for publication is assumed by the act of submitting your photos. If you do not wish to have your photos used for further promotional purposes please notify GAP staff at the time of submission.
    Recent Events
MURDOCH VET STUDENT ASSOCIATION DOG WASH DAY
Each year the Murdoch Veterinary Students Association runs an annual dog wash sponsored by Virbac and Hills to raise funds for 1 or 2 charities, to further their stance in the community as an association, and for the Vet school profile.

It was held on Sunday 13 March and what a great day it was - so nice not to be too hot but perfect weather for a bath! The First to Third year Vet Students put in such a great effort with the bathing while the 4th and 5th year students completed the vet checks under the watchful eyes of the experienced Vets. The sausage sizzle was a welcome diversion for our stomachs and the raffles offered great prizes.

This year Greyhounds As Pets was invited to attend with a stall, not because they think we have smelly dogs, but because they have chosen us as their given charity. Wow!!

Thanks a whole heap to the Murdoch Vet Student Association for their generosity and for the tons of GAP crew who participated and volunteered on the day too. Well done everyone!
