    SPECIAL OFFERS FOR GAP DOGS
    Kennelling at Morrone's
Morrone's Kennels would like to offer people who have adopted a GAP dog, a special boarding rate. Generally they charge $20 a day no matter what breed of dog but as a special offer to GAP Greyhounds they have reduced this fee to only $15 per day for GAP Greyhounds.

Mark and Sarah have raced greyhounds for years and have tons of experience with the breed. Sarah said she hoped that it will set owners minds at ease knowing that when they go away they can board their dogs with them and even appreciate a reduced rate.

    Free Vaccinnations
Perth Vet Emergency has supported GAP by offering reduced rate vetting services for our foster dogs for years. They have also been keen to develop a happy band of blood donor dogs who may provide a donation of doggie blood in the same way we humans donate to the Red Cross.

We have run articles in past news letters about the suitability of greyhounds as blood donors and the process of donating (see April 2010 edition for article) Greyhounds are universal donors and one of their blood donations can be used to save the lives of critically sick or injured dogs.

For the next month, ending 30 June, PVE would like to offer GAP hounds a free vaccination with every blood donation. The process takes about 30-60 minutes and PVE's hours are Monday - Thursday 6pm - 8am and 6pm Friday open 24 hours over the weekend to 8am Monday mornings. Dr Ange from PVE has said that Saturday morning between 9am and 2pm tends to be a quieter time for them and may be suitable to most people. Anyone interested please feel free to email Ange HERE or call through on 9204 0400.

    NUZZLE'S ME MUM'S NEW HOME
You may have seen in the last newsletter the story about Nancy (aka Nuzzle's Me Mum) making a bid for freedom in her last race and subsequently getting lost and then found again after a scary 34 hours in the bushland behind the Greyhounds WA race track at Cannington.

Well the story ends exceptionally well for Nancy as she has since passed her Greyhounds As Pets fostering process with flying colours and is now happily ensconced in her new home, thoroughly enjoying life as a pet.

Nancy's new Mum put in an "Application to Adopt" with GAP and when we replied to her email saying we felt that Nancy would be a great match for her household she was thrilled to hear the news. Despite being in America at the time of our reply, Anne was staying up till the wee small hours of the morning in America so that she could call the office to speak with GAP staff and make all the necessary arrangements. Anne returned from America and drove straight from the airport to meet Nancy! It was love at first sight and two days later Nancy was happily in her new home.

    DON'T FORGET -
PHOTO SUBMISSIONS FOR GAP 2012 CALENDAR
Last call for photo submissions for the national GAP 2012 Calendar! Submissions from all states will need to be received by Friday 24 June 2011. Please refer to the following guidelines for submitting your photos.

    Image Quality:
Digital photos are preferred however printed photos will still be accepted if they are of a good enough quality to be scanned and enlarged. Images submitted need to be the highest quality so they can be enlarged to the larger sizes printed in the calendar. To improve quality, look at your digital camera settings and make the size setting = largest and the quality setting = finest this will be the biggest possible file size at the best quality.

    Naming:

Your photos must be individually labeled with your name and your dog's name.

    Digital photos

It is important to have a clear reference of the Dog/s name and the Adopter/s name.
When saving files to disk rename the file in the following format: DogName_OwnerName_.jpeg
Make sure each photo on the disk is named along with the disk itself.

    Printed Photos
Please write Dog/s name and Adopter/s name clearly on the back of each photo.
If more than one greyhound is in the submitted photos, clearly state the name of each greyhound and their colour.

    Please post your photos to:
    GAP Calendar Photos
    PO Box 6
    Cannington WA 6987

    Or email them here.

Remember to follow the naming guidelines so that we can ensure your dog is correctly identified if your pictures are selected. Please note, any photos submitted for use in the calendar may be used by GAPs around Australia for promotional purposes and therefore your permission for publication is assumed by the act of submitting your photos. If you do not wish to have your photos used for further promotional purposes please notify GAP staff at the time of submission.

    RECENT EVENTS

    RSPCA Million Paws Walk
Once again the Greyhounds As Pets Corporate Team at the Million Paws Walk was full of a bunch of sensational people and their beautifully behaved hounds. Well done to everyone who attended. It was really easy to find and complement tons of wonderful hounds all flying the flag for GAP at the event.

Murdoch Vet Students - Nutrition Workshops
Again another terrific day was had at Murdoch with the 2nd year Vet Students with the Workshops being held as part of their assessment, revision and curriculum for their Nutrition Unit.

We have to say that the BBQ lunch was sensational, the info provided in Dr Caroline Jacobson's lecture was really interesting and spending the afternoon with the students was terrific. A HUGE thanks must again go to all of the wonderful GAP Volunteers who attended with their well behaved hounds (inside the lecture theatre and all!!) and to Caroline and the students for arranging such a great day.
