NUZZLE'S
ME MUM'S BID FOR FREEDOM Just
in case you missed the recent Greyhounds WA / Greyhounds As Pets
publicity on Channel 10 a few weeks ago we thought we'd include the
link to the Channel 10 story so that you could all see it for
yourselves.
NUZZLE'S ME MUM aka Nancy is now well
rested and recovered after her 34 hours of scary freedom. She will
be in a lovely foster home soon and we're sure will make a gorgeous
pet. After GAP rehomed her Mum NUZZLE in January last year with a
cat and a young baby, we're sure that Nancy will be soon following
those footsteps all the way to an unsuspecting couch very
soon.

MILLION PAWS WALK - REGISTER
NOW! The
Greyhounds As Pets corporate team has now been registered for the
RSPCA Million Paws Walk on Sunday May 15 so you can get online and
register yourselves and your gorgeous hounds as part of the team.
We're consistently amongst the largest corporate teams and have
regularly managed to create a great showing of our pointy nosed pups
at the event so lets make this year no exception.
To
register, go online to RSPCA
When you're in the website go to the
"register online" page and then select "join an existing team". Both
our team name and organisation name are "Greyhounds As Pets". You
don't need to have a greyhound to enter and you can still say you're
part of our team if you're walking dogless or even with a lovely WAG
(Wanna be Greyhound dog breed). The more the merrier.
Event details Sir James Mitchell Park,
South Perth 8am -1pm (walk starts at 10am) Sunday 15 May
2011
On the day you'll be able to find us hanging out near
the Perth Vet Emergency marquee as they will be there promoting
their terrific services and continuing to strengthen the PVE
sponsorship and support of GAP.

are now accepting photo submissions for the 2012 Greyhounds As Pets
calendar.
GAP WA are coordinating the production of the
National GAP Calendar for 2012 and we're ready for you guys to start
sending in your gorgeous photos. Submissions from all states will
need to be received by Friday 24 June 2011.
Please refer to
the following guidelines for submitting your photos: Image
Quality: Digital photos are preferred however
printed photos will still be accepted if they are of a good enough
quality to be scanned and enlarged. Images submitted need to be the
highest quality so they can be enlarged to the larger sizes printed
in the calendar. To improve quality, look at your digital camera
settings and make the size setting = largest and the quality setting
= finest this will be the biggest possible file size at the best
quality.
Naming: Your
photos must be individually labeled with your name and your dog's
name.
Digital
photos It is important to have a clear reference
of the Dog/s name and the Adopter/s name. When saving files to
disk rename the file in the following format:
DogName_OwnerName_.jpeg Make sure each photo on the disk is named
along with the disk itself.
Printed Photos
Please write Dog/s name and Adopter/s name clearly on the back
of each photo. If more than one greyhound is in the submitted
photos, clearly state the name of each greyhound and their
colour.
Please post your photos
to: GAP Calendar Photos PO Box 6 Cannington
WA 6987
Or email them here.
Remember to
follow the naming guidelines so that we can ensure your dog is
correctly identified if your pictures are selected. Please note, any
photos submitted for use in the calendar may be used by GAPs around
Australia for promotional purposes and therefore your permission for
publication is assumed by the act of submitting your photos. If you
do not wish to have your photos used for further promotional
purposes please notify GAP staff at the time of
submission.

RECENT EVENTS Murdoch Vet Student Association
Dog Wash Day The Annual Murdoch Veterinary
Students Association dog wash day was a terrific success with a
whole bunch of GAP people attending, volunteering and ending up in
various soggy states with hounds in different degrees of "wet".
As a result of the day's success the Murdoch Vet Students
Association made a deposit of a donation of $1000 to GAP. What a
terrific bunch of people they are! Thanks very much to all involved.
Capel Fest Sunday 27
March - What a hive of activity the Fest was and the size
of the crowd that was attracted to the GAP stand was a total credit
to the guys who volunteered to run the event. Definitely enough of a
crowd for the stall to be considered one of the crowd favourites for
the day. We're already seeing applications come through as a result
so well done to all those involved.
PEEL Fest Saturday 16
April - As part of the promotion for the Peel Racing,
Pacing and Chasing Carnival being over Easter, Greyhounds As Pets
held a promotional display on the Mandurah Eastern Foreshore in
conjunction with the people presenting information on the Pacing and
Racing Codes. As part of the frivolity there was a whole bunch of
Canoe races in the river and the beautiful day made that even more
appealing!
Balingup Small Field
Days Saturday 16 April -Nothing like Ballingup in
Autumn and they certainly put on a show. The reception from the
country crowd was amazing and the response from the crowd totally
positive. Certainly a display we'd love to do again next year.
Hills Heartbeat Festival
Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 April - Hosted at
Armadale Christian College in Bedfordale the location was in the
heart of the hills bush country and the reception was terrific. A
great response from the family oriented crowd that
attended.

COMING EVENTS MURDOCH VET STUDENTS - NUTRITION
WORKSHOPS - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED After the success
of last year's workshops out at Murdoch, the seminars have again
been included as part of the assessment, revision and curriculum for
the 2nd year Vet Students.
The workshops are scheduled for
Friday 6th May between 12.30 and 3.30pm. About 80 students will
attend on the day and so we'd love to get about 12-15 hounds if we
can, to be able to keep the groups to manageable sizes.
The
schedule of the day includes a BBQ lunch provided by the Students, a
short lecture on GAP, greyhound racing, rearing, training and
nutrition and then we split into the groups with the students to
discuss management and nutrition issues with the students.
The aims of the day are -
To give the students a chance to meet some retired greyhounds
and learn about greyhounds as pets
To give the students a chance to get some nutrition revision in
a relaxed informal environment in the lead up to their mid-year
exams!
To give GAP volunteers a chance to have a look at the Murdoch
Veterinary School and meet our Vet School staff and students
To give our 2nd year vet science students a chance to start
practicing their "consultation" techniques by talking to "real life"
dog owners and their dogs If you think that you could help out
please contact the team at GAP as we'd love to have
you there.
