July 2010 Edition
    Walking Group

Gaining momentum with each month the numbers are looking good and the locations are staying varied and interesting! Elizabeth and the regular members continue to try and select locations that mean different people may be able to attend if the location is closer to them.

This month the Greyhound Walking Group will be meeting:

2pm at the Chidlow Pub (for walking NOT drinking!!)
    4 Thomas St Chidlow
WAGS (“Wannabe a greyhound” dogs) invited

Please give Elizabeth a call if you’d like more information 0427 012 172.
All welcome – the more the merrier, especially when you might be stopping for drinks after the walk!!

    GAP Champions

With this series of snippets about the champions of GAP we’d be very remiss if we didn’t acknowledge the massive part our supporting Kennels play in assisting us with the overall operation of caring for our foster greyhounds, housing them, helping with their assessments, providing socialisation opportunities for them and assisting with the logistics of moving dogs between foster homes.

Although GAP has been in operation since 1998, having the kennels has really been an addition of more years. The benefits it has created for us has been massive in terms of providing a back up plan for us in times when the foster resources have been stretched to the limit, providing locations for drop offs and pick ups of dogs entering GAP, coming in for vetting or going to and from new foster homes.

Then you have to also register their generosity in providing access to their facilities - like the wonderful paddock at Pampered Pooch that is regularly used for the Greyhound Playgroups. .

So we want to give a huge thanks to Whispering Palms and Pampered Pooch for being such GAP Champions.

    The Ridiculously Handsome Stan

Recently there was a buzz in the GAP office when we were contacted about a photographic studio requiring the modelling services of “a gorgeous Blue Greyhound”.  It was short notice and they had contacted all refuge homes they could think of as well as anyone who may have had access to a blue greyhound. The successful model needed to be secured within days for their client in Brisbane – it was all very mysterious and exciting!!

We sent out emails to GAP owners of blue hounds asking if they were interested and requesting that they send photos to Houndstooth Studios for possible selection.

There was a flurry of email activity and shortly afterwards the successful hound was chosen to take part in a photoshoot as a model for a Queensland Government Car Numberplate company who make a product aimed at owners of European Premier Luxury Vehicles.  As a result we’re not likely to see the actual campaign but the ridiculously handsome Stan was the winner!! You may have met Emma and Stan at one of the many displays they attend or at the playgroups at Pampered Pooch.

As a result of the wonderful cooperation and submissions from our GAP owners Houndstooth Studios made a generous $250 donation to GAP that Alex and Emma decided would be put towards the building of the kennels at Hakea Prison that will be part of our “Second Chance at Life” Prison Fostering Program that we are undertaking. (There will be more details on the Prison Program in coming editions of the newsletter!)

    Special Houndstooth Studio Offer

Further to Alex’s generous donation from Houndstooth, she has said that Greyhounds are amongst her most favourite dogs to photograph, so she has offered a special to GAP Greyhound owners of a $50 photographic sitting including one free 5 x 7” print during August. That represents a $215 value for only $50.

Check out Alex’s stunning work here and you’ll be able to call or email her with any enquiries or bookings.

If you’ve sold some and still have money to send in either drop into the office to pay or you can deposit the money into the account with the notation GAP Chocolates and your name (so we know you’ve paid!).
