Deals on Dentals!!

Swan TAFE have called us with an urgent cry for help - they have no surgeries booked in for Tuesday (tomorrow) or Wednesday and as a teaching Vet Hospital they can't do much teaching with nothing booked in!! They have asked if any of the GAP owner's have dogs that might need a dental done on either of these days (Tuesday 20th or Wednesday 21st October).

Dentals are $150 and this is a reduced rate for the anaesthetic and a general dental scale and polish. Costs may vary if any take home antibiotic is required.

If you could have your dog at Swan TAFE, Hayman Road in Bentley between 8.30 - 9am on Tuesday or Wednesday then give Venetta Atkinson a call on 9267 7119.

To prevent dental disease and protect your dog's health, follow these simple steps:

  • Visit your veterinarian for a dental exam.

Your veterinarian will examine your dog's mouth and point out signs of dental disease. Based on your pet's oral health, your veterinarian may recommend a dental cleaning and home care.

  • Start a dental care program at home.

Between professional cleanings at your veterinarian's clinic, you should give your dog one or two Greenies® per day to maintain their oral health at home.

  • Choose food, treats, chews and dental products wisely.

Ask your veterinarian to recommend the appropriate food, dental products and toys based upon your dog's needs.

  • Provide clean fresh water for your dog at all times.

Your dog should have access to clean water at all times. Water is essential to your dog's balanced diet.

  • Canning Show - Volunteers Needed

The Canning Show is on again this year and GAP will be having a display on Saturday 7 November.

The display will be open from 9 - 5pm. Volunteers are needed to do either a morning (9-1pm) or afternoon (1 - 5pm) shitft on the couch! Let us know if you can make it with your gorgeous hound.

There may also be a new addition to the Canning Show calendar of events so stay tuned for more information.

    Perth Royal Show

The display this year looked fantastic and thanks must got to Anne Harris for her wonderful artistic talents in creating the great banners, and to Ascot Signs for their sensational reduced production costs that enabled us to create such a professional look. Thanks so much to all of the volunteers who attended to the show with their hounds to share their knowledge and love of greyhounds with the public. In total we had 2 staff, 60 volunteers and 55 dogs attend to man the display during the 8 days of the show!

The Applications to Adopt are certainly flowing in and we seem to be operating with about 25 - 30 Applications on the go at any one time. Busy busy!!

    Playgroups

While the first and third Sundays of the month at Pampered Pooch continue to draw big crowds we thought it might be time to give a bit of a reminder to people that the North of the River Playgroups are being held on the second and fourth Sundays of the month.

Second Sunday of the month - Shenton Park Dog's Refuge Home, Lemnos St Shenton Park, allow all GAP people to use one of their exercise paddocks between 3.30 and 5pm. For more details call the Coordinator Belinda Gault 0424 440 508.

Fourth Sunday of the month - West Coast Pet Care, 49 Adams Road Mariginiup is on in the mornings from 10 - 12pm with more details available from the NEW Cordinators Margaret and Ron Hay 0420 963 766.

    Interested In Fostering?

With the Royal Show now done and the influx of adoptions that we always receive after the Show, if anyone has thought about trying fostering, now is truly the time we'd love you to give it a go!! We already have 25 applications on the go and are expecting to double this level once the show is over. While we need any foster carers, we typically have trouble assessing the dogs for their suitability to live as an "only" dog in a household with no other canine companionship and for their "cat tolerance" and ability to live in a home with cats. GAP supplies collars, leads and coats for dogs in foster care and thanks to our National Sponsor we can supply Advance dog food biscuits for the dogs nutritional needs.

So if you're interested in giving fostering a go, even if you only foster over this busy time frame, please don't hesitate to email or call Tammara Olds on 0411 152 686.
