Alyssa recently joined as a superstar GAPWA foster carer. She opened her home (and heart) to Fire, a gentle and goofy greyhound who made himself at home over our four week foster period.
“Fire is a sweet and gentle soul. He takes treats so politely, greets us every morning, and fills the house with so much love and joy,” Alyssa said. “His favourite trick is to throw his soft toy in the air and catching it himself!”
During their time together, Fire experienced many aspects of pet life for the first time. With the help of his loving foster home, Fire grew more confident. He showed off longer zoomies, more affection, and his playful ways. For Alyssa, it was an amazing reward to “see the change in how he carries himself.”
Fostering with GAPWA is typically four weeks, and food and medical costs are covered. All you need to give is your time, your home, and a bit of your heart.
We understand that for our foster humans, saying goodbyes to their foster hounds isn’t easy, but as Alyssa shared; “It’s such a meaningful way to help. You’re not just giving a dog a temporary place to stay, you’re giving them the chance to feel safe, to grow, and learn how it is like to be a loved member of a family. I’ll miss Fire so much, but I know he’ll be loved wherever he goes.”
