Jacques is a young hound at just one and half but is as warm as a fresh croissant and as sweet as a macaron. His name means “one who follows,” and nothing could be truer as this loyal lad loves to be by your side and soak up affection. He is hoping to say bonjour to a home that can guide him and show him the ropes of pet life. Jacques would adore having a canine sibling of any size to help his transition but he’s also happy to fly solo. Jacques could stay home alone for more than size hours at a time and when you return expect a greeting full off kisses and wriggles. Jacques is a very polite and friendly Jacques boy so he could join children aged five years old or older if they were dog savvy and polite at first meet. Like a typical greyhound, Jacques only needs one or two 20-minute strolls each day to keep his tail wagging, although his puppy personality may turn them into longer adventures as he stops to check out every corner, baguette crumb and say hello to every friendly face.

Jacques foster update | Jacques is ready to say lamour to his forever home

Jacques is having a wonderful time in foster care, finding his feet and steadily growing in confidence. He’s currently living with a five year old Shih Tzu mix named Libby and he’s absolutely thriving with a little ‘sibling’ to help show him the ropes of pet life.

Jacques is picking things up beautifully; he’s mastered toilet training, can comfortably stay home for up to eight hours (as long as he has some toys or enrichment) and is getting the hang of on leash neighbourhood walks. He’ll need a little patience and support as he continues building confidence around new sounds and smells in the neighbourhood but he’s already making great progress.

At home Jacques is a confident, social and delightful hound. His foster humans describe him as a “real gentle giant.” He loves having visitors and has become fast friends with the 10 and six year old boys who regularly stop by. Jacques has also met other greyhounds and an 11 year old cocker spaniel and has been both polite and appropriately playful with them.

Jacques has a definite soft spot for treats and would very much like his future home to continue his beloved nightly ritual of a chew at bedtime. His foster humans tell us that he hasn’t chosen a favourite toy yet but he does lean toward anything with a good squeak. They’ve also let us know that he occasionally gets a little confused about whether the glass door is open or closed but he’s working on it.

Overall, his foster humans say Jacques is “so sweet natured and calm” and that he will make a wonderful addition to any future home.

To set Jacques up for success, his forever and foster homes would be similar environments, and include;

✅ a confident doggie ‘sibling’ of any size

✅ Lots of treats

✅ All house members five years old or older
