Greyhounds as Pets WA (GAPWA) is excited to support and encourage greyhound enthusiasts across rural Western Australia to take part in this year’s Great Global Greyhound Walk on Sunday 28 September.
Whether you’re in a small country town or a larger regional center this is a great opportunity to celebrate our unique breed and connect with fellow hound humans in your community. Every walk, whether long or short, with two hounds or 200, contributes to a global count and celebration of these amazing dogs.
Why regional walks are so important
Regional communities are full of passionate hound families and your walk helps bring people together, gives greyhounds a fun social outing, and supports the breed. Even small strolls in your local park make a will help shine a spotlight on greyhounds outside of metro Perth.
How to get involved
1️⃣ Register your walk on the official Great Global Greyhound Walk website so it’s counted as part of the worldwide event
2️⃣ Contact GAPWA by 14 September to chat about how we can support your walk.

Does it cost to organise and register a walk?
No, registering a walk with the Great Global Greyhound Walk is completely free!
Do we need to be part of an organisation or community group to host a walk?
Not at all. Anyone can host and organise a Great Global Greyhound Walk. Walks can be public or private so you can choose whether to open it to the general public or keep it just for friends and family.
Do only greyhounds attend these walks?
It is up to the walk organiser. Some walks ask for only greyhounds to attend, others welcome all sighthound breeds and some allow other dogs that live alongside the greyhound to attend.
What is the closing date for registrations?
Great Global Greyhound Walk asks for you to register your walk by the 19 September. If you wish to receive support from GAPWA, please contact us by the 14 September.
How do my numbers contribute to the global count?
You will receive an email Friday 26 September from Great Global Greyhound Walk and you simply need to reply to this email by 6pm on the day of the walk, with the TOTAL number of Sighthounds which attended your walk.
