When it comes to choosing a greyhound, many people have their hearts set on a girl. In applications that have a gender preferences, four out of five are requesting a girl. This means male dogs are often overlooked and on average wait 20% longer for their forever homes.  

While female hounds are absolutely wonderful, this July it’s time for the boys to have their moment in the spotlight. The truth is, male hounds are 100% as snuggly, friendly and easy-going as their female counterparts. 

So why the preference?

Many people have preconceived ideas about strength, toilet training or personality when it comes to male dogs. But with greyhounds, those assumptions don’t really hold up.

• Big fans of a good nap (or several) 

 Yes, male greyhounds are typically around 20% larger than females, but that’s just more ‘hound to love! Plus, you don’t need to bend down to give them all the good scritches and scratches. 

There is often the idea that two males can’t happily coexist. We don’t think this is true at all! Our matching process considers personality and preferred interaction style. With the right match, two males can become best mates.
